6 reasons why you should choose a SemperGreenwall

Often is asked, ‘why is a Sempergreenwall suitable for extreme weather conditions and what distinguishes a Sempergreenwall in comparison to potted-wall solutions’’.
In this article we describe the 6 main differences that distinguishes a Sempergreenwall from a green wall with potted systems.

1. Flexipanels

Flexipanels are the building blocks of the Sempergreenwall. The Flexipanel was designed around the needs of the plants. The core of the Flexipanel is made of mineral wool,  a sustainable and lightweight substitute for soil. The mineral wool gives the Flexipanel an increased ability to retain moisture without attracting soil-based fungi and other plant diseases. It also gives the plant more room to root and therefore, reduces the amount of plant replacements required. At the top of each Flexipanel there is a sleeve for the drip lines with automatically deliver the water and nutrients required for the plants to flourish. The result is bigger fuller plants with more flowers.

2. No root bounding

Due to the design of the Sempergreen Flexipanels, the roots in a Sempergreenwall can grow naturally and not be bound by a barrier. Plants that are bound by a barrier, such as a pot, cannot grow to their full potential and are more susceptible to environmental elements and disease. Natural root growth means:

  • The plant roots are completely grown into the Flexipanel allowing the roots easy access to moisture and making the plants resistant to extreme winds.
  • The roots are able to find protection from the cold and heat in the Mineral Wool. The Mineral Wool protects the root systems by keeping them moist and giving them insulation.
  • The Mineral wool optimizes the plant growth by providing a continuous flow of nutrition through the Plant Care System that is easily accessible for the roots. This optimizes the growth of the plant and allows the plant to grow to its full potential.

3. Plant care system

The integrated Plant Care System will protect your plants and irrigation lines from frost and/or freezing by automatically blocking the irrigation and draining the lines when frost enters. This prevents damage to the irrigation system and to the roots and plants. The irrigation will resume automatically once the temperatures rise again. This system allows the plants to be watered year-round, even in the cold months! This system also pumps nutrition into the SemperGreenwall giving the plants the extra nutrition, vitamins and minerals they need to survive each season.

4. Adaptive to climate

As previously mentioned, the smart plant care system provides the best nutrition for each season to the plants. During the year, the nutrition and water supply is monitored and adjusted remotely. Therefore, the plants are able to survive in any weather conditions. During the winter period the plants will go dormant, however, they will flourish/bloom again in the spring. The change of seasons can result in different colors of plants during the different seasons.

5. Pre-grown

The plants used in the Sempergreenwall are pre-grown and trained for an outdoor or indoor application in our greenhouse. Were the latest technology in climate control, and an abundance of space to guarantee excellent quality. This allows the plants to take less time to adjust to the climate at the project location, which helps to prevent plant loss. Together with years of cultivation experience, Sempergreen offers a perfectly cultivated living wall with a minimum of 90% coverage upon installation, for an instant green transformation.

6. Customized plant selection

Sempergreen has a strong focus on quality. It is essential to choose the plants carefully for a thriving and lasting green wall. With our extensive plant expertise, the horticulturist of Sempergreen selects only the strongest perennial species of its Sempergreenwall systems, specially tailored to your project and designed to fit the local weather conditions.
