An empty office building in Nieuwegein has been turned into a modern and future-proof headquarters for Mercedes-Benz Netherlands, by OPL Architecten in collaboration with Delta Development. By removing the centre of the building, a beautiful atrium has been created with lots of natural light. In this atrium, the living walls from Sempergreen have been applied on a large scale. Next to the green walls, a 1.000 m2 green roof from Sempergreen has been installed on the building.
Guided by the Cradle to Cradle philosophy
The sustainable transformation has been completely based on the Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy. They have worked without producing garbage and solely made use of sustainable materials. To put the employees first, Delta’s ‘Human Centered Design’ has been applied and they have worked according to the MeWe-Space office concept by Daimler. This ensured that a user-friendly and inspiring office environment was created in which functionality and flexibility are at the centre.
Courtyard with green walls creates healthy indoor climate
The courtyards of the building create a pleasant working environment. In total, 8 SemperGreenwalls have been applied in various sizes. In consultation with OPL Architects, a planting design has been created which suits the interior. The greenery in the office environment offers the employees and visitors a healthy indoor climate and reduces ambient sound.
